The project focused on issues revolving around individual memory stimulated and enriched by inherited family archives. Apart from typical paper documents (correspondence, photographs, sketch and notebooks, drawings), these archives also include keys-artefacts.
My father’s keys, with descriptions on paper tags and makeshift keyrings bound together with cords and wires, precisely as they had been left and found, demanded attention. Their impact on my memory and imagination caused surprising phenomena to transpire: a pulsating territory and the time intermingling mechanism devoid of logic.
Piled together, the keys form a massive irregular solid with a detectable weight. Each of them is a material fact attesting to the existence of now obsolete addresses, places mentioned in the description and those undefined, unnamed, unlabelled with any cord or wire. Simultaneously, as metal objects, the keys may be a matrix, yet not in printmaking this time, but in a sculptural action, imprinted in plaster plates according to a precise design. Becoming an intermediary between me, the forgotten and the remembered, the key becomes a tool anew, this time opening new doorways to camouflaged meanings and senses. Through an impression in plaster, revealing its three-dimensional negative-soul, it multiplies. This is what the graphic nature of the project and its spatial dimension consist in.
